What can I do for you?

Fundamentally I care about getting the best outcome for you and your changing family. I am a family lawyer, mediator and collaborative lawyer in our family team, recognised by the independent legal directories as a leading expert in family law. I will help you sort things out in the best way for you; whether in mediation or the collaborative process, or through solicitor negotiation or court, and I will support you throughout. You may be married and facing a divorce, or you may have lived with a partner and owned a property and/or a business together, perhaps. Either way, it is probably a very tough time for you, and I should be able to help.

I have many years of experience sorting out financial agreements for separating couples and the arrangements for your children. If you are getting married, or are already married but want to agree how your finances are to be managed during your marriage and if it breaks down, I also have particular expertise in pre and post-marital agreements (pre-nups). Often I work with couples as a mediator or in the collaborative process to achieve cost-effective solutions, particularly where businesses are involved, or there are tricky issues in relation to the arrangements for children. If you have complex circumstances, perhaps involving business interests, trusts, pensions or international issues, or need help sorting out the arrangements for your children, you will need focussed and effective advice and support. I am happy to help you in cases that are more straightforward too.

I am qualified to meet with your children as well as you in mediation if appropriate and I am qualified to conduct MIAMs (mediation information and assessment meetings).

Supporting my clients’ aims and objectives

You will need me to understand your circumstances and objectives so that I can help you to get there in the most appropriate way for you. I will help you to assess your aims to make sure they are practical and realistic, and help to find solutions for dealing with issues as they arise. You may count on my support to help you formulate a clear plan and to follow or adapt it as necessary. I have also introduced the use of a communication style questionnaire to help improve communication with and for clients, which you will find here.

What do others say?

We are very proud of our family team at Mills & Reeve and are delighted that we have been recognised with various awards and by the independent legal directories. Chambers UK reports that we have a strong reputation for complex wealth protection and financial remedy cases for high net worth clients, and that we ably handle litigation, mediation and collaborative law matters, whilst working closely with the firm's corporate and private client teams. We are also active on international children matters including relocations to foreign jurisdictions. "The team at Mills & Reeve are all very friendly, approachable and committed to the clients they work with", and are a "very capable, personable team which provides a very good quality of service to clients."

On a personal level, Chambers UK says I am widely recognised for my dispute resolution skills and praised specifically for my alternative dispute resolution methods and qualifications as a mediator and collaborative lawyer, quoting the following feedback: “She has excellent technical knowledge, and is very experienced at mediation issues. She is very personable with clients, so puts them at ease," and "I cannot praise Alison enough, she has been the legal rock to which I have clung during this long process."

Legal 500 says I am singled out as being ‘just superb at diffusing conflicts; very astute and technically brilliant and a top-drawer family lawyer and mediator with an excellent manner with clients.

Clients have said that I have a “careful and conciliatory style in handling things” and that I “certainly do not shy away from playing hardball if required”, while another was “extremely impressed by the highly professional manner in which my case has been handled – also the level of empathy and compassion shown to me during the course of the case”.

“The service I received was professional, very thorough but most importantly, I felt comfortable and at ease in what could have been a very stressful situation.”

“Everything was very professional and business-like but retaining a friendly personal touch”.

“I have been immensely impressed by the breadth of qualities that you display. Your gifts and sheer application have brought forth the result which I felt I needed for a peaceful, stress-free future.”

“I found myself in an awkward position. In a short time frame (overnight) Alison was up to speed with my case and represented my best interests in negotiating a settlement with my now ex wife in one meeting after weeks of unpleasantness between us”.

“For your professional yet sensitive guidance and support … thank you.”

“I recognise how hard you worked for us and am very grateful for that and all your efforts. Thank you”.

“Very professional, never took sides” (in a mediation).
