Liberty Protection Safeguards consultation launched

In our blog earlier this week, we highlighted that the long awaited consultation on the new Liberty Protection Safeguards would be released “very soon”. A few days later they have arrived! The public consultation which is run jointly by the Department of Health and Social Care and Ministry of Justice is now live.

The consultation is open until 7 July and we would encourage anyone who might be affected by the proposed reforms to respond.

The Government has released the draft Code of Practice which is amended to take into account the new LPS structure, along with six sets of Regulations that will support the system. In addition, there are documents on LPS Training Strategy to help plan the workforce training that will be required to adapt to the changes, along with a Training Framework which sets out the skills and knowledge that will be required to implement them.

There is a lot of documentation to absorb and a huge amount of work has gone into the reforms - it is vital that the new system works effectively to enable a robust lawful framework to protect and support some of the most vulnerable individuals in society.
