What can I do for you?

Working from both our London and Cambridge offices, I lead the firm's real estate investment sector, drawing together expertise in mainstream investment work and alternative asset classes. My clients include institutional pension funds, management houses, property companies, onshore and offshore investors (in the USA, Asia and Europe), charitable entities and professional trustees.

I like to approach all matters commercially and to draw upon the depth of our team of over 110 real estate lawyers to provide client teams who get to know the portfolio, provide continuity and quality of approach and knowledge - "you only tell us once". The structure of our team enables me to position work at the right level, not just the lowest. Work gets pushed up to experienced lawyers as well as across a geared team to deliver quality and value to clients.

We are committed to real estate as a firm and are keen to continue to grow our real estate practice. We are an independent UK law firm meaning we can offer an extensive global reach through our network of 'best friends', working with real estate practices similar to ours in jurisdictions relevant to our clients.

Recent matters I have advised on include:

  • Acquiring and disposing of assets held in on and off shore corporate structures including the acquisition of Beehive Shopping Park in Cambridge from British Land for £109 million, the sale of Aldgate House for £100 million to a Hermes joint venture and the sale of Marble Arch Tower W1 for £79 million to Almacantar
  • Working with clients to enable investment in alternative assets including student accommodation, education assets, health care and rural property. Examples of recent deals include acting for a major US REIT on its acquisition of a portfolio of private hospitals in the UK for over £100 million, the acquisition of the agricultural business arm of the Co-operative Group for £249 million and the acquisition of four student accommodation schemes for £77 million in Manchester and Liverpool for a Singaporean Investor.
  • Advising on forward funding of developments including the purchase of One The Square, a 142,662 sq ft building outside Cambridge station and the largest forward funding of a speculative development in Cambridge

Some of my other roles include, a trustee of a charitable trust at Cambridge RFC, which aims to give financial support to promising young rugby players, and I am an ECB level 1 cricket coach.

I also belong to the R&A, Royal Worlington GC, Hunstanton GC, the Beavers GS, the Flitch Pilgrim CC and Cambridge University Real Tennis Club.
