Update: NHS Provider Selection Regime

The new NHS Provider Selection Regime (PSR) is not expected to be in use before July 2023 – and until the PSR is in force, current rules must be followed to commission healthcare services. We expect more clarity on timeframes for implementation to be published ‘shortly’.

As readers will know, the PSR has been developed in response to consultations by NHS England and the Department for Health and Social Care and you can read our earlier blog here. But the aim of the new regime is to “give decision makers a more flexible process for deciding who should provide healthcare services, to make it easier to integrate services and enhance collaboration and ..remove bureaucracy and cost associated with the current rules”.

Upcoming Provider Selection Regime webinars: register your interest

According to an NHS England announcement, a series of webinars are currently being planned, aimed at three core organisations:

  • Integrated Care Boards
  • NHS trusts and foundation trusts when subcontracting the provisions of healthcare services to other providers
  • Local authorities and combined authorities when arranging section 75 partnership arrangements with the NHS

They are intended to cover a range of topics from decision-making, key criteria overview, transparency and scrutiny requirements.

You can read more about NHSE’s plans here and register your interest in the webinars here.
