Transfer slabs under the spotlight:The regulatory concerns

In this session, we will consider recent warnings issued by the Building Safety Regulator and the potential structural safety issues concerning transfer slabs.

Eileen Pathiraja, Alex Ranaghan and Frankie Parry-Barker will cover:   

• An introduction to concrete transfer slabs in buildings (a floor arrangement where a column sits on top of a reinforced concrete floor, without a supporting concrete column underneath it)

• The recent concerns raised by the Building Safety Regulator, including the impact of potential “punching shear” failures, where a column can “punch” through a concrete floor slab

• A review of the affected buildings in the UK so far

• Implications and considerations for relevant building owners
