Strategic property management in the public sector: Part 1 - leasehold in the public estate

Webinar

The Government Property Strategy has the ambition for 2030 of a smaller, better and greener estate.  This requires flexibility and adaptability to changing demands and needs for property.

Leasehold forms a significant proportion of the public estate, and this form of tenure can continue to help achieve this ambition.  It is however important that leases contain the appropriate level of landlord control to allow the drive towards more co-location, increased interoperability, and improved flexibility.   Exiting a lease also needs careful management.

Join us for a two-part series of webinars focused on property management challenges in the public sector.  We will discuss important considerations for property sector professionals who must maintain portfolio flexibility and manage the exit strategies for their buildings.

The first webinar will focus on important issues to think about on taking a new lease and those which may arise during the lease, including:

  • Negotiating heads of terms - meeting Government objectives for transforming services
  • Sharing occupation and flexible space - meeting changing departmental needs
  • Break clauses – future proofing leases
  • Lease renewals - the role of security of tenure and the Law Commission and Government review of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954
