New HMRC guide for charities on claiming Gift Aid published

A new step-by-step guide to claiming Gift Aid has been published by HMRC, which takes the user through the process of downloading, saving and completing the Gift Aid donations schedule, and submitting it online using the Charities Online portal.

It even goes so far as to confirm the software needed to complete the schedule – Microsoft Excel 2010 or later, or LibreOffice 3.5 or later – and contains links to other useful HMRC guidance on Gift Aid.

There is also the opportunity for users of the guide to tell HMRC what they think of the new guide, in an online survey.

It seems likely that many charities claiming Gift Aid, especially those doing so for the first time, may find this new guide quite useful.
