Fire safety update: Revised Building Regulations Approved Document B (Fire Safety) released

Following on from my blog on the Government’s independent review of fire safety following Grenfell Tower, the new editions of:

  1. Building Regulations Approved Document B (Fire Safety) Volume 1: Dwellings; and
  2. Building Regulations Approved Document B (Fire Safety) Volume 2: Buildings other than dwellings

have now been published. The Approved Document provides official guidance on how to comply with Building Regulations and the new Approved Document B includes amendments to cover the recent ban on combustible cladding on high rise buildings and desk top fire safety assessments.

The Approved Document B does not include any changes to fire policy. Any such policy changes will take place after the Government has analysed the results from its recent consultation to assess the technical aspects of Approved Document B. This is a changing area of law and policy and we will continue to keep you posted of any developments.
