Leading national law firm Mills & Reeve has advised German chemical distribution giant, HELM AG, on its investment in a Norfolk fertiliser manufacturer.

Hamburg-based HELM AG is now a stakeholder in Brineflow Limited, a leading manufacturer of liquid fertiliser.

Based in Great Yarmouth, Brineflow, which can trace its roots back to 1816, supplies farms across the UK and international customers from its key-side terminals in Great Yarmouth and Sunderland. The management team at family-owned Brineflow, which has been a customer of HELM AG for many years, will continue with the day-to-day running of the business following the investment.

HELM AG is a family run company and one of the world's major independent chemicals distributors with more than 100 subsidiaries, sales offices and participations in more than 30 countries. The company was founded in 1900 and has a turnover of more than 6 billion euros.

Tim Gätgens, vice president business development at HELM AG, said: “This deal is the result of a decades-long relationship between HELM AG and Brineflow and we look forward to this new phase of the relationship between our businesses.”

Thilo Schneider, head of corporate in the London office of Mills & Reeve, said: ‘We are pleased to have advised HELM AG on its latest investment which is a strategic fit to its growing international portfolio. The transaction underlines the commitment of our corporate team in London to servicing international clients and to growing our core sectors.”
