Patrick McCallum

Principal Associate

What can I do for you

Patrick is a commercial lawyer specialising in IT, technology and data protection. He supports a mix of public and private sector clients by reviewing, drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of their commercial contracts, including:

  • Complex IT outsourcing arrangements

  • SaaS agreements

  • Software development and licensing contracts

  • Manufacturing, logistics, agency and distribution agreements

  • Contracts for the design, development and implementation of IT systems within organisations

Patrick also advises organisations on how they can comply with data protection laws, how to approach the drafting of data processing and data sharing agreements as well as strategies for the commercialisation of their technology and IP.

Supporting your ambitions

Patrick understands that clients want advice that is commercially pragmatic, based on an understanding of their business and strategic objectives and delivered within timescales.

One of his key skills is being able to explain the legal and commercial risks posed to his clients in a clear, relatable and down-to-earth way and then provide them with practical solutions to help them manage those risks and secure the best deal they can for their business.

What do others say

"Personable, bright and organised, Patrick has proven himself able to assimilate a huge volume of contractual data and distil it into pertinent and concise legal advice. He builds trusted relationships both with his own customer, and with their end clients. A pleasure to work with."

"I wanted to say a huge thank you for your great support … Your professionalism, drive for results and attention to detail were all exemplary ... I have worked on many big deals over the years with many different law firms, and your standards are right at the top of the league."

What else should you know

Outside of work, Patrick is a keen cricket fan and will try and attend as many Yorkshire and England matches as the weather permits! He also loves birdwatching and helps run a feminist book club in his hometown of Leamington Spa.

  • I think Mills & Reeve are a wonderful firm. The support they have provided to us in a really difficult area has been brilliant, collaborative and commercially minded. The team were absolutely wonderful and a joy to work with. Amazing advice and support and a real collaborative effort with us. I can't thank them enough for getting us through some really tough times and doing so with an amazing can-do attitude.
  • They are friendly, fast, always available and always on top of the game. I tend to judge my legal team against the other side's legal team and never doubt Mills & Reeve is the better of the two.
  • All interactions have been very clear. Responses to questions have always been very swift and unambiguous. Our company, and my family, have used various services in Mills & Reeve with the same level of satisfaction.
  • I value the fact that Mills & Reeve are recognised as a good place to work in the UK Best Companies survey. This aligns with the values of our business and means that Mills & Reeve can share what is required to achieve this status with our business.
