Book: Transfers of Football Players

Our Carol Couse and Tiran Gunawardena have contributed a chapter to a book to be published by The Sports Law and Policy Centre titled “Transfers of Football Players: A practical approach to implementing FIFA rules.”

Published under the direction of Avv. Michele Colucci and Desirée Bellia, the book covers the following topics:

  • Latest developments to the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP);

  • Jurisprudence from the FIFA Players’ Status Committee (PSC) and Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding transfer agreements;

  • Image rights;

  • Training compensation and solidarity mechanism principles under the RSTP;

  • Third Party Ownership (TPO);

  • Registration of minors;

  • FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS);

  • Intermediaries / Agents;

  • International tax issues relating to the transfer of football players; and

  • In depth analysis of the domestic rules regarding transfers in England, Argentina, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the United States of America.

Taking into account the legal and economic context of the football transfer system, the ongoing reform process and consolidated FIFA PSC and CAS jurisprudence, this book aims to provide football stakeholders and lawyers with an updated and comprehensive overview of the key legal and regulatory issues which need to be considered in domestic and international football transfers.

Individual chapters have been authored by experienced, leading football lawyers around the world. Carol and Tiran contributed the Chapter regarding transfer rules in England.
