Aiming for GOAT status with introduction of Millie (the goat)

We've highlighted our commitment to the natural environment with the strategic appointment of Millie the goat to our Leeds office.*

Millie joins the team to drive forward our work with conservation organisation Make it Wild to restore habitats and create healthier ecosystems.

As part of the partnership, we've funded an invertebrate survey at Make it Wild’s nature reserve at Smelthouses to support future conservation efforts. Staff from the firm’s Leeds office also recently spent a day at the Smelthouses site, digging two wildlife ponds to create much-needed wetland habitat.

We've now sponsored Millie, part of the team tackling invasive gorse bushes and restoring balance to the rewilded landscape at Make It Wild's Bank Wood site.

Paul Johnson, partner and head of Leeds office at Mills & Reeve, said: "We pride ourselves on attracting top talent and Millie is absolutely world-class at clearing invasive gorse. We had a chance to watch her at work and it was incredibly impressive. I know she'll be an inspiration for the entire team and her appointment demonstrates our commitment to supporting biodiversity projects here in Yorkshire.

"I'd like to thank everyone at Make it Wild for welcoming us, introducing us to Millie and her family, and sharing the fantastic conservation work taking place on site."

We've joined forces with Make it Wild as part of the firm’s 'Achieving more for nature's recovery' initiative. Established in 2017, the multi-award winning organisation manages eleven nature reserves across North Yorkshire, as well as several franchise sites elsewhere in the UK.

Helen Neave, co-founder and director at Make it Wild, said: "Mills & Reeve has supported us across a number of projects and its commitment to our objectives is clear. The team really shares our passion for the natural world and ambition to encourage more people to take part in its protection.

"It's fantastic to facilitate Millie joining the Mills & Reeve team; she’ll be a real asset in supporting its 'Achieving more for nature's recovery' programme."

*Millie will work on a remote basis.
