Mills & Reeve advised the Community Foundations for Lancashire and Merseyside on a significant donation from the Pilkington Charities Fund.
The transfer of approximately £25 million in assets from the Pilkington Charities Fund to the Community Foundations for Lancashire and Merseyside will enable more than £800,000 of annual funding to be donated to charities and community groups across Merseyside.
This is a milestone donation for the UK Community Foundations network and will support key initiatives in Merseyside, such as those aimed at improving poverty and improving health. The donation will prioritise organisations based in St Helens, in recognition of the town’s historic connection to the Pilkington legacy.
It has taken three years of planning and due diligence by the trustees of the Pilkington Charities Fund to complete this agreement. Pilkington Charities Fund’s decision to entrust the fund to the Community Foundations for Lancashire and Merseyside reflects its long-term commitment to the region.
Helen Hirst, senior associate at Mills & Reeve, commented: “We were pleased to advise the Community Foundations for Lancashire and Merseyside on this landmark transfer from the Pilkington Charities Fund. This significant gift will strengthen the Foundations’ ability to support the charities sector in Merseyside and will make a meaningful impact in the region.”
