As part of its effort to modernise and provide efficient service to parties and stakeholders, FIFA recently included the possibility for disputes to be referred to mediation.
Following this, FIFA has announced its inaugural list of 19 mediators here following the first mediation workshop, which included senior members of FIFA’s legal team and the newly appointed mediators.
Carol, partner in the Mills & Reeve sports team said: “It is brilliant to have been appointed to FIFA’s mediators list. In the UK there are increasing numbers of sports disputes being resolved by mediation as parties see the benefit of saving time and costs, preserving relationships and framing the outcome of their disputes on their own terms.
"FIFA’s inclusion of mediation as an alternative to arbitration is a welcome development and it will be fascinating to see its impact on football disputes at a global level.”
Carol also recently produced a short guide which explains the process, and benefits, of mediations here.
