Andrew helps insurers and reinsurers with drafting, coverage, defence, subrogation and regulation. Andrew advises insurers on political risk, trade credit, political violence, specie and jeweller’s block. He also regularly advises on marine, property, construction, energy, mining and heavy industrial risks around the globe.
Andrew also advises on general commercial dispute resolution, including by way of litigation and arbitration, usually with international elements. He advises both claimant and defendants in respect of letters of request under the Hague Convention and the UK Evidence (Proceedings in Other Jurisdictions) Act 1975. He represented the succesful US clients seeking to depose witnesses in England in the leading case of Atlantica Holdings v Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna.

Andrew has over 20 years’ experience of advising insurers and reinsurers and has a thorough understanding of the legal challenges they face. Andrew’s role is to give clear advice to his clients and robustly to protect them in litigation or arbitration if needed, whilst recognising the importance of negotiated outcomes where possible.
Andrew’s practice is international. He is used to working closely with overseas lawyers. Andrew worked at a US firm for 8 years. Andrew advises on Letters of Request for evidence under the Hague Convention and Evidence (Proceedings in Other Jurisdictions) Act 1975.

Andrew enjoys the countryside and is Chairman of the Lloyd’s Flyfishing Society. He plays tennis with more enthusiasm than skill. Andrew is married with two children and a cocker spaniel.

Munchener Ruckversicherungs Gesellschaft (t.a Munich Reinsurance Company) v Commonwealth Inurance Company  Successfully Defended Munich Re in London and California in a transatlantic reinsurance jurisdiction battle.
Standard Bank PLC v Via Mat International & Another ; Defended Via Mat in High Court and Court of Appeal in this banking / specie case concerning claim for $20M silver alleged to be missing in China.
Midnight Marine v Thomas Miller Specialty Underwriting : Successfully Defended insurers in very long running marine insurance arbitration in London, including when challenged in the High Court.
Atlantica Holdings & Anor v Sovereign Wealth Sumruk-Kazyna JSC, BTA Bank (Defendants) and Pavel Prosyankin and John Howell (Third Parties) : Successfully represented Claimants in a heavily contested application for persons in England to be deposed pursuant to a Letter of Request / Letter Rogatory from the US Court for the Southern District of New York concerning alleged very large international banking fraud. Case clarified important principles under Evidence (Proceedings in Other Jurisdictions) Act 1975.
