Fiona Longden

Principal Associate

What can I do for you

Fiona is a solicitor in the firm's Employment team. She advises and represents employers including NHS organisations, private health bodies, universities, further education colleges and academies. She undertakes employment tribunal litigation, including defending complex claims of whistleblowing and discrimination, and also provides strategic and operational advice on re-organisations, acquisitions and mergers, contracting out and exit packages for senior personnel.

Supporting your ambitions

Fiona worked with an NHS Trust client to successfully defend an application for injunctive relief brought in the High Court by a consultant surgeon. The surgeon had (unknowingly) transmitted bacteria to numerous patients, with lethal consequences, and had been restricted from operating for several years. Now free of the bacteria, he challenged the restrictions to his practice. The case involved understanding and explaining the medical risks and working with the client's senior management and medical teams, as well as managing media enquiries. The High Court approved the Trust's plan for the surgeon's future employment, which was a great outcome.

What do others say

Fiona has recently supported an NHS organisation with a six week trial involving complex and historical allegations of discrimination.  In-house legal counsel has said: "Fiona..is excellent: technically strong, not patronising of in- house legal and HR teams and very good with challenging witnesses. A very safe pair of hands".

What else should you know

Fiona takes part in the firm's Free Legal Advice Group, which involves supervising university law students in providing advice to members of the public without means to access legal services.

She qualified as a solicitor in September 2010.
