Huw is a solicitor in the regulatory and healthcare team. Before joining Mills & Reeve, he spent 10 years acting for individuals and their families. Huw was regularly instructed by the Official Solicitor in cases before the Court of Protection and acted in serious medical treatment cases and applications under the High Court’s inherent jurisdiction. He is an Accredited Legal Representative under the Law Society’s Mental Capacity (Welfare) Scheme.
Huw also has experience of bringing judicial review applications on behalf of individuals and campaign groups, usually in relation to matters concerning community care. He has a particular interest in cases concerning access to medical treatment.
At Mills & Reeve, Huw now represents NHS bodies and advises NHS clients on a variety of healthcare issues, including serious medical treatment, public law decisions, mental capacity and mental health law.

- NHS Trust v Mother of E [2021] in which he was instructed to act for E’s mother
- University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust v HER & Anor [2024] in which he was instructed by the Official Solicitor on behalf of HER.
Huw was also instructed to act in a judicial review relating to NICE Guidelines on the prescription of cannabis-based medicinal products in cases of treatment-resistant epilepsy. As a result of this, NICE published a clarification to its guidelines.
