Rachel Higgs

Consultant

What can I do for you

Rachel has been helping clients resolve commercial disputes for over 30 years. She is known for her good judgement, clear thinking and straight talking approach which enables clients to weigh risk and reward and maximise the chances of a successful outcome.

Rachel specialises in complex high-value contract disputes, disputes arising from business sales, shareholder and partnership disputes and commercial fraud.

Supporting your ambitions

Over the last couple of years, Rachel has helped an NHS hospital resolve a £30 million outsourcing dispute, a global baggage handler exit a loss-making contract, a manufacturing company avoid injunction proceedings for misuse of confidential information, and a food supplier pursue a supermarket under the Groceries Supply Code of Practice.

In every case, Rachel collaborates with her client to set astute and realistic objectives and devise a case strategy for achieving those objectives. She is a firm believer that outcome is more important than process and is equally at home with litigation, arbitration, expert determination, mediation or negotiation.

What do others say

Legal directories, Chambers and Legal 500, say:

"Clever, insightful and robust" partner Rachel Higgs attracts praise for her "no-nonsense views on how to tackle a case; her advice is top quality in comparison not only to regional firms, but also City firms",

"Strong and technically brilliant", and

What else should you know

Rachel has been surprised by the number of times she's been described by clients using words beginning with the letter "R". These have included "responsive", "robust", "resolute", "realistic" and "risk-aware", which probably sums up her approach to dispute resolution. So far, no client has described her as "really annoying", though those words may have been uttered by opponents.

I can't thank them enough for getting us through some really tough times and doing so with an amazing can-do attitude.
  • They are friendly, fast, always available and always on top of the game. I tend to judge my legal team against the other side's legal team and never doubt Mills & Reeve is the better of the two.
  • All interactions have been very clear. Responses to questions have always been very swift and unambiguous. Our company, and my family, have used various services in Mills & Reeve with the same level of satisfaction.
  • I value the fact that Mills & Reeve are recognised as a good place to work in the UK Best Companies survey. This aligns with the values of our business and means that Mills & Reeve can share what is required to achieve this status with our business.
