Overview of the Job Support Scheme
Short-time working ("JSS Open")
Starting when the extended Coronavirus Retention Scheme ends, eligible employers will be able to claim a Government grant to support the wages of staff who are put on short time, provided that they continue to work at least 20% of their normal working hours.
Local lock-down ("JSS Closed")
JSS will also provide an alternative package of temporary support over the same period where business premises have been legally required to close as a direct result of coronavirus restrictions. Under this part of the Scheme, the grant per eligible employee will be two thirds of their normal pay, up to a limit of £2,083.33 per month, for periods during which they are prevented from working because of these restrictions.
Timetable
The remainder of this document reflects the fact that JSS was originally designed to come into effect on 1 November, replacing the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme which was due to end on 31 October 2020. The CJRS has now been extended for a least a month, which means that the dates referred to in the rest of this document (for example to assess eligibility or to make claims calculations) may change, once we know for sure when JSS will launch.
