Martyn's law

The global threat from terrorism, whether this is a lone assailant using a vehicle as a weapon (VAW) or an organised group remains substantial.

Understanding Martyn's Law

The UK's approach to improving preparedness for protecting workers and the public at certain premises (determined by type of use and reasonable capacity) is the proposed “Protect Duty” legislation. The draft Bill (the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill) is currently going through the parliamentary review process and on 7 January 2025 the House of Lords carried out its Second Reading.

Who is impacted by this legislation?

If you are responsible for qualifying premises or events, you will need to comply with the final legislation. This will impact various sectors, including insurance, education, healthcare, entertainment venues (such as museums, theatres, cinemas, restaurants, pubs, and libraries), sports venues, and music festivals. Compliance will involve adapting to new regulatory requirements and potentially updating insurance coverage.
