Key issues for food labelling

Key issues in food labelling were outlined by industry experts in a recent article, including my own commentary referencing the new Food Information to Consumers Regulation. 

A food label is often a brand's only way of directly communicating with consumers. As well as the importance of ensuring the label complies with all legal requirements there are a number of added areas that should be considered. In light of the horsemeat scandal there has been increased consumer concern of where products have been sourced, sustainability, how they have been manufactured and indications of corporate values such as envirnoment, health and quality.  Additionally, the emergence of new technology and 'smart labels' to better engage with the consumer.
