The Imperial War Museums (IWM) and Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge enter a joint venture to create Duxford AvTech, a new aviation technology campus at the historic IWM Duxford site.
This landmark project will transform a 25-acre site into a world-class centre for aviation innovation, with a focus on green propulsion, advanced air mobility and sustainable aerospace technologies. Located within the Oxford–Cambridge Arc, the campus will offer around 45,000 sq. ft of high-quality innovation space, designed to attract leading-edge companies and researchers.
The Mills & Reeve team was led by principal associate Chris Warenius, with Andrew Wood as lead partner. The team also included Jenny Beresford Jones and Rona McPherson (public procurement), Matthew Short, Katie Marimon, and Jennie Newton (tax), Emma Raspin (construction), and James Dorrell (planning and environment). Working closely with both partners to shape the legal framework for this ambitious development, they advised on:
• The structure and governance of the joint venture
• Public procurement aspects
• Planning and environmental compliance
• Commercial arrangements with development partner, Henry Boot Developments (HBD)
Chris commented: “What makes this project truly special is its blend of heritage and innovation. Duxford is a site of national significance and we’re helping ensure that its legacy is respected whilst enabling a bold vision for the future of flight.
“We’re excited to be part of a project that not only supports the UK’s net zero ambitions but also strengthens the region’s position as a hub for cutting-edge aviation technology.”
