Health and safety issues for charities to address when planning for a safe return to work

With the unfurling of lockdown and easing of restrictions, Samuel Lindsay and Duncan Astill have published some FAQs on our coronavirus hub, taking a look at the key health and safety issues organisations need to consider when planning how they will manage a safe return to work for employees, including:

  • their legal duties,
  • how to carry out a risk assessment,
  • what a safe system of work might look like
  • effective implementation of new arrangements
  • employees at increased risk of harm from the coronavirus, and those living with vulnerable persons
  • the possible refusal of employees to return to work for health and safety reasons
  • the provision of PPE, and use of face coverings
  • the Equality Act 2010 and discrimination in systems of working and
  • commuting and work related travel.

The article also contains links to download a Covid-19 specific risk assessment template and a risk assessment considerations “aide memoire” document, which are both free to access.
