Key changes to charity law rules on charity land transactions, permanent endowment and charity names came into force yesterday. They aim to make running a charity simpler and more cost effective. The Charity Commission has updated its guidance in line with the new legislation.
Permanent endowment
The capital threshold for releasing permanent endowment without Charity Commission consent has been raised to £25,000 – and the £1,000 income threshold abolished.

Charity names
Working names have been granted the same protection as registered names. The Commission has a new power to delay registering a charity that has applied to be registered with an unsuitable name.
