Navigating NHS partnership working

If there’s one thing the recent techUK Health and Social Care Summit made clear, it’s this: the future of NHS digital and tech innovation will be built on collaboration. Whether you’re a techUK SME, a major tech provider or an NHS digital transformation leader, working together isn’t just a nice idea - it’s essential to delivering the ambitions of the NHS 10-year plan.

We know there are challenges that arise when technology suppliers, both large and small, seek to work with the NHS. While new innovations are abundant, scaling those innovations can be difficult for SMEs.

SMEs often find themselves locked out by complex procurement processes, while larger suppliers can struggle to adapt to the realities of working with smaller partners. The answer? Building consortia - groups that pool resources and expertise - can open doors that might otherwise stay firmly shut.

The solution lies in agreements that focus on outcomes, not just ticking boxes. A model collaboration agreement, with clear and fair principles, could help level the playing field.

Ultimately, the NHS needs technology that delivers real, measurable improvements. By sharing risks, aligning incentives, and focusing on what matters - better outcomes for patients. The future of health tech is collaborative.
