The UK's Department for Transport and Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles have been consulting on the use of Automated Lane Keeping System (ALKS) on Great Britain's motorways. The proposal aims to see the technology introduced for motorway use in a safe and considered way.
Although ALKS is likely to produce important safety benefits, we do have concerns around the transition between system and driver, and the expectations on drivers to be ready to retake control on a few seconds' notice.
We have submitted detailed comments in a response available on our Driverless Insights hub.
