What can Robert do for you?

Robert specialises in construction and engineering law, including the procurement and negotiation of construction and engineering contracts including JCT, NEC and MF/1. He also advises on consultant appointments and collateral warranties as well as the construction aspects of purchase, lease and finance agreements. 

Robert has expert knowledge of MF/1 and regularly blogs about it.

Supporting your ambitions

Robert has been deeply involved with the meteoric re-development of Cambridge that has taken place during the last decade or so.

His recent high-profile projects include the development of the University of Cambridge's laboratories and departments using the NEC3 suite of contracts and reviewing the contractual documentation in relation to the purchase of Cambridge Retail Park.  He has also been heavily involved in drafting amendments to contracts to address COVID-19 and Brexit.  He has also advised on the use of modern of methods of construction (MMC).

Robert is sole legal counsel for Knapp UK Limited, who often contract on MF/1 based contracts. The Knapp representative described Robert as providing clear advice that is accessible to clients whilst at the same time adopting a robust, non-nonsense approach to some of the key clauses in the contract.

Robert is a member of the Society of Construction Law.

Robert is proficient in speaking and reading Mandarin. 

He also has a PhD in Chinese politics and lectures at Cambridge University.  He is a senior member at Robinson College, Cambridge and a professor at the University of Tartu (Estonia).

He has written a number of books and articles on China
