What can Robert do for you?

Robert is an expert in construction and engineering law, assisting clients with the procurement and negotiation of a wide range of construction and engineering contracts. These include building contracts, consultant appointments and collateral warranties. Robert also advises on the construction aspects of purchase, lease and finance agreements and frequently produces due diligence reports for corporate, banking and real estate clients.

Supporting your ambitions

Robert has been deeply involved with the breathtaking re-development of Cambridge that has taken place during the last decade or so. One of his most high-profile projects was the construction of a £130 million office complex to house the entire Cambridge workforce of Cambridge Assessment. There were a range of diverse contracts (including a contract to protect the owl population!). The main construction contract was NEC3. The negotiations with the multi-national building contractor were fierce but good-humoured. It was rewarding to see the building going up from the six floor vantage point of the Mills & Reeve Cambridge office.

What do others say?

Robert is sole legal counsel for Knapp UK Limited, who often contract on MF/1 based contracts. The Knapp representative described Robert as providing clear advice that is accessible to clients whilst at the same time adopting a robust, non-nonsense approach to some of the key clauses in the contract.

What else should you know?

Robert is a member of the Society of Construction Law.

Robert is proficient in speaking and reading Mandarin.

Robert also has a PhD in Chinese politics and lectures at Cambridge University. He is currently writing his sixth book on China and has published twelve articles in refereed academic journals on a range of China related subjects.
