End to end case management service for clients wins innovation award

A new end-to-end case management service for clients was recognised at this year’s Legal Week Innovation Awards along with an app to help lawyers keep up-to-date with available technologies and make informed decisions at the touch of a button.

The Legal Innovation Awards, held virtually for the first time, recognise the achievements of the leading firms, individuals and service providers driving revolutionary change in the legal market. Mills & Reeve won awards for client management innovation, knowledge management innovation and PR and communications innovation on top of being highly commended in two more categories – the future of legal services innovation and the lifetime contributor.

Mills & Reeve’s Volume Control won the client management innovation award. An end-to-end case management service to help busy in-house legal clients “control the noise of the business”’ while leaving them to concentrate on other important tasks, Volume Control was described by the judges as agile product development in action.

The knowledge management innovation award was won by our app, What The Tech?!. It was described by the judges as a highly innovative, neat, simple and very effective solution to keep lawyers up-to-date with available technologies, helping them make informed decisions at the touch of a button.

Innovation 50 and Top Tech Yorkshire won the PR and communications innovation award. The campaigns’ aims to boost PR and communications across Mills & Reeve’s Birmingham and Leeds  offices were described by the judges as “authentic”, demonstrating the firm’s sincere grounding across regions both in terms of community and sector focus, particular in technology, and resulting in client and brand equity.

We were also highly commended in the future of legal services innovation (mid-sized private practice) for our client listening project, Building resilience - what clients want from their law firm, and in the lifetime contributor – private practice won by leading family lawyer Nigel Shepherd, who campaigned tirelessly for the no fault divorce.

Trevor Comyn, Director for Knowledge, Learning & Development, said of the achievements: “Innovation at Mills & Reeve is all about listening to our clients, understanding their needs and developing better ways of working to improve the client experience. It is fantastic to see all the great ideas, problem solving and hard work the team puts in to be recognised at this year’s Legal Innovation Awards – although it is a shame we could not all celebrate in person!”
